The Design School at Arizona State University organised an exhibition in downtown Phoenix focused on social issues facing Arizona. The exhibition showcased 39 designers with different topics and visual styles under a unified experience. To promote the event and provide a visual language, I photographed and designed a 24x36” poster with the theme "Exposed: Uncovering Arizona’s Social Issues.” The idea of revealing subject matter in differing perspectives informed my approach to uncovering a vibrant Arizona landscape in various angles.
Vivid sunsets happen frequently in the Sonoran desert and the gradient of colour on the print represents the common palette usually on display in the Southwest. It also plays a supporting role in the concept of revealing and exposing, with areas of high and low contrast gradually moving between the background and typographic elements, creating an impression of movement. The greatest challenge was finding a legible and cohesive way of incorporating the names of all 39 designers.
